The Shira route is one of our preferred routes due to its low traffic, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. The route starts off from the western side of the mountain towards one among the highest plateaus on Earth! On While at the Cathedral Point, you will enjoy an amazing view of Kibo Peak, the highest Point in Africa!

Day 1 Morrum Barrier Gate to Moir Hut

Leave your Lodge in Moshi at 07:00 am for a 2:30 hrs of transfer to Londorossi gate (2,100 m / 6,900 ft).

Arrive at the Park gate for registration and issuing of permit to enter the park and then have another drive from Londorossi gate to Morum Barrier gate 3,400m/ 11,800 Ft) where your hike will start. We will proceed with our hike crossing Shira plateau as we continue with our hike to Moir Hut (4,200m/13,800ft), a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. The terrain during our steady climb will change from the moorland of the Shira Plateau to the broad upland desert beneath the Lent Hills with great panoramic views. On the way, you will have your packed lunch near Cathedral Peak where you’ll enjoy an amazing view of Uhuru Peak! We then walk back to the vehicle point near Shira Heli Pad Point where you will meet your vehicle and transfer back to Moshi.
